Overview - Zimbra Enterprise E-mail Hosting (Zimbra Collaboration Server version 8)

Zimbra Enterprise E-mail Hosting is an open source collaboration platform, featuring e-mail, calendaring, file sharing, and tasks. You can access Zimbra using the Zimbra Webmail client, Zimbra desktop, Outlook, Apple Mail, or many other standards based mail clients. You can also access Zimbra from many mobile devices.

New features available in Zimbra 8

The Webmail client for Zimbra 8 has been completely redesigned, and is easier to navigate and more intuitive to use.

Enhancements for version 8

  • Zimbra now supports DKIM (Domain Keys) signing for outgoing mail
  • Contact groups can sync using CardDAV
  • The Find Shares folder allows users to find all items shared with them
  • Per folder retention period can be now set in the Web Client
  • External virtual accounts are created when users share Mail, Calendar or Briefcase items with an external user
  • Active Sync 12.1 is now supported
  • Mail Sent Later can be used from the Web Client

Selected features in Zimbra Collaboration

  • SMS notifications can be sent for calendar events
  • S/MIME e-mail encryption can be enabled from the Webmail client (see User Guide for more information)
  • External calendars can be added to the Webmail client
  • Ability to create e-mail templates

New Zimlets available for version 8

A Zimlet is a plugin that adds some additional functionality to Zimbra. New Zimlets have been added with Zimbra version 8. NOTE - Zimlets are only available from the Webmail client.

  • Task Addon - adds a "Mark as Complete" button
  • Attach Contacts - allows attaching contacts when composing a new message
  • Email Attacher - attach e-mail message when composing a new message
  • Attachment Alert - alerts you when forgetting to attach an attachment when composing a message
  • Colored E-mails - changes color of e-mail messages in list view based on sender email or message tag
  • Date - highlights dates, previews associated appointments, and creates a link in the calendar
  • Email Contact Details - highlights and previews associated contact details for an email address
  • Downloader - drag and drop download of e-mails, Contacts, or Appointments
  • E-mail Templates - allows users to insert email templates
  • Google Maps - highlights and previews addresses using Google Maps
  • Holiday Calendars - subscribe to holiday calendars for various countries
  • Yahoo! Local - use Yahoo! Local to find businesses and services nearby
  • Multi Timezones - displays multiple timezones in the Calendar Scheduler
  • Phone - highlights phone numbers to enable Skype calls
  • Secure E-mail - sign, verify, encrypt, and decrypt e-mails with S/MIME. This requires the user to have a personal signing certificate, and is disabled by default.
  • Search Highlighter - highlights search terms in yellow
  • URL Links - highlights web URLs for linking in e-mail messages
  • WebEx - easily schedule, start, and join WebEx meetings
  • Yahoo! Emoticons - display Yahoo! Emoticons in e-mail messages
  • Archive - allows user to archive e-mail to local folders

Highlighted Features and Fixes in Zimbra Collaboration Suite 8.6

Features

Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 8.6 has several new features available:

  • A new HTML5 mobile client (Touch) for recent smartphones and tablets
  • An Offline Mode to allow some functionality if there is no Internet access
  • An Exchange Web Services feature to allow Outlook for Mac (2011/2016) users to access the full functionality of ZCS

Fixes

  • Fixed issue with an incorrect shared URL in shared briefcases
  • Calendar searches can run on descriptions of location or resources
  • Time zone fixes

Features

Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 8.0.9 is a bug fix release, no new features have been added. There is one known issue with this release that is listed below.

Fixes

  • OpenSSL has been upgraded to 1.0.1j
  • Timezone information has been updated to reflect changes for Russian timezones as of 26 October 2014

Known issue with ZCS 8.0.9

  • The Admin UI home screen will not show the correct Domain count. All domain related functions are still working fine.

Highlighted Features and Fixes in Zimbra Collaboration Suite 8.0.7 patch 2

Features

Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 8.0.7 patch 2 is a bug fix release, no new features have been added. There is one known issue with this release that is listed below.

Fixes

ZCS 8.0.7 patch 2 was released to fix several problems with the Delegated Admin which were introduced by a previous patch (patch 1). This patch also fixes an issue with Outlook and file downloads.

  • Admin user interface is no longer blocked while home screen is loading object counts
  • Improved admin console usability when returned results is over the limit.
  • Fixes Outlook 2010 crash with ZCO 8.0.7.1146 while pushing new appointments
  • Added workaround for issue causing error when downloading a file attachment if filename has a space character.

Known issue with ZCS 8.0.7 patch 2:

  • The Admin UI home screen will not show the correct Domain count. All domain related functions are still working fine.
